Description:
The Monastery of the Holy Trinity is located 17 km to the southeast of the town of Knjaževac, in-between Lower and Upper Kamenica (Donja and Gornja Kamenica). The church is the legacy of Despot Lazar, Djuradj Branković’s youngest son, which is witnessed by an inscription in the mortar that became known thanks to a transcript made by the abbot Panteleimon. The interiority of the church was painted, but nothing has been preserved of the original paintings. Only a few fragments of the frescoes in the dome and the narthex (“The Last Judgement of God”) that belong to the renewal in the first half of the 19th century are visible. A smaller necropolis was discovered nearby the church. The monastery still lives today as a women’s monastery.
