Description:
The Art Gallery “Nadežda Petrović” was founded in 1961. It is named after Nadežda Petrović (Čačak, 1873-Valjevo, 1915), a great painter and patriot, a pioneer of Serbian modern art, an organizer of the first South Slavic exhibitions, art colonies and artistic associations in the very beginning of the 20th century, an active social and aid worker. The Gallery has actively been occupied with contemporary fine/visual art through exhibiting activity, protection of movable cultural goods (collections) and publishing activity. Since 1960, every second year, the Gallery has continually been organizing the Memorial of Nadežda Petrović, one of the oldest art exhibitions in Serbia and ex-Yugoslavia, where the current fine/visual art practice is presented. Besides the Memorial, some other art projects and exhibitions are organized – individual, group, thematic, historical, educational, as well as some other kinds of programs – promotions, presentations, seminars, visual, educational and professional workshops, film projections, literary evenings, concerts etc. The Gallery actively cooperates with museums, galleries and cultural institutions all around Serbia and the region. Besides the aforementioned, the contemporary profile of the Art Gallery has the permanent exhibition, the internet-site and exhibition production too. The Gallery’s fund possesses seven collections – Nadežda and Contemporaries, Yugoslav Art of the Second Half of the 20th Century, Memory-Collection of Bogić Risimović Risim, The Collection of Drawings and Cartoons of Pjer Križanić, The Legacy of Božidar Prodanović’s Family and the Memory-Collection “Sonja Savić”.
